The suspect in the first homicide in Ottawa in over 10 years was in court yesterday, Monday afternoon, August 14th for official arraignment in the case. The arraignment was continued from the initial arraignment hearing on June 30th, and that arraignment hearing will continue again in October. Thirty year-old Anthony Alvarado was arrested in June of last year for the stabbing death of his roommate at their residence at 11th and Ash.
Alvarado is charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of 29-year-old Dalton Presley. He is pursuing a self-defense claim. He has been held on a one million dollar bond in the Franklin County Detention Center. Investigators from the Ottawa Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation were on the scene for nearly five days after the incident. The court scheduled the arraignment continuation for October 16th.
