Residents in Oklahoma voted Tuesday August 15th, on whether or not to legalize recreational marijuana. Though they eventually voted the move down, and some lawmakers in Kansas are wondering how long it will be before Kansas does the same. In the last legislative session a bill passed the Kansas House with bipartisan support, however, the Senate didn’t move it out of committee for a vote. Kansas is surrounded on three sides by states that permit either medicinal or recreational marijuana use. In her 2023 State of the State Address, Governor Kelly called for the passing of medical marijuana:

Representative Stephanie Clayton from Overland Park says it’s not about the red or the blue, it’s a bout the green, like, as in money. She believes it is an economic development opportunity for Kansas citizens and they should be looking at supporting the passing of the bill this year.
