The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is investigating cases of a foodborne illness called campylobacteriosis that may have originated at the Trade Winds Bar and Grill in Garnett. This infection is associated with eating raw or undercooked poultry or from contamination of other foods by these items. It doesn’t usually spread from one person to another, but can when an infected person does not wash their hands with soap and water appropriately after using the restroom or before preparing food.

People recover on their own, but, it can, in rare cases lead to paralysis lasting several weeks to several years. If you ate there from July 14th to August 9th and experienced symptoms of diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, you are encouraged to take a survey posted on the KDHE website and facebook page. KOFO has also posted it on our facebook page. The KDHE is working closely with the Kansas Department of Agriculture to ensure proper food safety practices are in place at the restaurant. They held an inspection Tuesday,August 15th and provided compliance assistance to the business.
