USD 365 in Garnett will exceed its “Revenue Neutral” budget guideline for next school year, according to its draft budget released recently, which will authorize potential expenses of up to $23.8 million with some $5.3 million in locally-generated tax funding. Overall, the budget calls from a district-wide property tax increase of more than $502,000 compared to the budget this year. Superintendent Don Blome said while the published budget included the best guess at spending from this point in time in anticipation of known expenses, the final enrollment of the district carried a lot of weight on the budget since state funding is awarded on a full time equivalent basis with weighting given to numbers of lower-income and special needs students.

The district’s Public Budget Hearing is set for 7:30 in the evening, Thursday, September 7th, at the District Boardroom.
