Tense moments at a recent Garnett City Commission Meeting and a long time conflict between commissioners and Recreation Department Director Phil Burres have led to Burres submitting his resignation. The resignation followed a intense exchange with Mayor Jason Sheahan as well as a confrontation between members of his board and Sheahan about policy proposals he’d pitched for public response on his personal facebook page. At the Commission Meeting August 8th, Shehan said that of all the city departments, Park and Rec received the most complaints:
The Rec Department oversees a variety of other activities in addition to administering and general management of the city’s Recreation Center and recreation programs.
