A proposed new housing development in Osawatomie has been sidetracked as city officials look for answers to questions brought up at a Planning Commission Meeting. Former City Manager, Mike Scanlon, who is now a consultant to the city, gave a summary of the project. The Plat has 26 homes built along a new road called Fifth Street Terrace that would branch off of Kelly Avenue. The developer is the City of Osawatomie, which is a bit unusual. In June the Osawatomie City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city to apply for a Moderate Income Housing Grant for the Fifth Street Subdivision project.

Neighbors spoke out against the proposal, one citing concerns that the stormwater basin would become a mosquito hole. Another concerned about flooding and still another concerned about property taxes going up on their property. Scanlon says he would compile a list of all of the concerns raised at the Public Hearing, and get back to the Commission.
