A threat toward the school forced Prairie View into lockdown Thursday, August 24. Just after noon, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a former student at Prairie View USD 362 in LaCygne had made a threat toward Prairie View District on social media. Law enforcement responded quickly to the threat. Prairie View was locked down, per protocol, and parents of the students notified of the lockdown by their notification system. The subject that made the threat was never on campus at any time and was contained a short time later at their home in Miami County, and the lockdown was lifted. That person is currently in custody.
Law enforcement says that any kind of threat made toward a school is taken very seriously and encourages anybody who hears, or sees such a threat, whether in person or on a social media post, to immediately report it to the police. If you see something, or hear something, say something.
