Kansas lawmakers are looking at ways to make it easier for people to get their driver’s license back after it’s been revoked. More than 120,000 Kansans lost their driving privileges primarily because they couldn’t pay a ticket. That can result in some people driving illegally to get to work. In some cases, it is easier for drivers with a DUI conviction to get behind the wheel again than it is for someone who couldn’t afford to pay off a ticket.
Lawmakers say changes are needed. They have introduced a bill that would make it easier for people who can’t afford to pay a ticket to get their driving privileges back. The Kansas News Service reports that around 60% of Kansans who get their driver’s license suspended wind up losing their driving privileges because they can’t afford to pay off a ticket.
