Last Friday, September 6th, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new secure semiconductor manufacturing in Burlington. The 30,000 square foot plant at the Coffey County Airport will primarily supply components to EMP Shield. EMP Shield is designed to protect an entire home from lightning, solar flare, power surges and an electromagnetic pulse. It can protect your vehicle also.

Senator Jerry Moran spoke at the event and highlighted the importance of bringing semiconductor supply chains back to America for both our economic and national security. Moran says semiconductors are critical components of a vast number of consumer and military products and the U. S. can’t rely on countries like China for a universally important resource. Moran supported the CIPS and Science Act last Congress, a bill which will help restore semiconductor manufacturing capacity and increase Federal Research and Development spending in Kansas and other states across the country. As the lead Republican on the Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations Subcommittee, Moran says he will continue to make certain Federal agencies are implementing the CHIPS and Science Act appropriately and looks forward to continuing his support of Coffey County’s semiconductor efforts.
