Governor Laura Kelly and Kansas Transportation Secretary, Calvin Reed, announced today that 35 local and off-system bridge projects across the state will receive a combined total of $42.3 million as part of two local bridge improvement programs that capitalize on new revenue from the Federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Franklin County will receive $1 million to replace the bridge over Walnut Creek on Texas Road, one mile east and 23 miles south of LeLoup. Osage County will receive $1.1 million to make improvements to the bridge 2 miles east and just north of Lyndon.

The funds are targeted for city and county bridges not on the state highway system that are in need of replacement or repair. Over 5,000 bridges, state wide, don’t meet the state’s modern standard of safety, which Governor Kelly says is the reason the states investments are critical for making the state a better and safer place to live and to get people and goods where they need to go.
