As the new school year starts and athletic competition begins, Kansas Attorney General, Kris Kobach, is reminding individual school districts that a Kansas State High School athletic Association, known as KSHAA, policy prohibits biological males from competing in girls’ sports. KSHAA adopted the policy last April in response to a new state law, the Fairness In Women’s Sports Act. Kobach says he commends KSHAA for adapting the guidelines that comply with Kansas law. He says as the father of five girls who enjoy sports and athletic competition, he is delighted that the Kansas Legislature and KSHAA have taken strong action to defend opportunities for women athletes and to protect them from unfair competition.

The Fairness in Women’s Sorts Act requires all student athletes to compete in sports according to their biological sex assigned at birth, bars transgender women from taking part in girls or women’s sports from kindergarten through college level. Governor Kelly vetoed the bill, but the Legislature overrode that veto.
