The wheels are spinning on the replacement of the old Texas Road Bridge, just south of Sand Creek Road. Franklin County Public Works Director, David Lee says an engineering firm is ready to start work.
The existing bridge was built in 1920 and is considered structurally deficient and heavy farm equipment and emergency vehicles are not allowed on the bridge. Except for some relatively minor preliminary costs that the county has to pay, the Kansas Department of Transportation will pay 100 percen% for the bridge, up to one million dollars.
