One of the most difficult things any person or family has to face is when a loved one doesn’t want to live anymore. To address that issue, Frontier Extension District Director, Rebecca McFarland, has been doing some work on the suicide problem. She is a certified QPR Instructor, which stands for Question, Persuade and Refer a potential suicide victim. McFarland talks about some of the signs to look for in a person contemplating suicide:
McFarland says many people are afraid of asking someone if they’re thinking about suicide. Avoiding the subject could be most harmful to someone in need of help. She also reminds that the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is 9-8-8. You can also text that number to chat with someone. Both are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
