The city of Ottawa has officially put their municipal fiber optic network on the market. The city posted an invitation for proposals for the their internet network late Friday morning, September 22nd. Back in 2013, the city of Ottawa, understanding the need for high speed internet in the school district, Ottawa University, city offices and some local businesses, built their own high speed internet network. That network has drawn interest from larger companies, such as Vyve and AT&T and other providers who may want to buy or lease the cities network. City Manager, Brian Silcott explains what that would do for the people of Ottawa:

One estimate is that the network is worth a million dollars or more. The invitation for proposals are due back to the city clerk by 10 a.m., Friday, October 20th.
