The Garnett Police Department has put a lot of time and effort into getting a little extra funding for the officers and their hard work has paid off. The department was able to apply for, and be rewarded, a grant from the local Safety and Security Equipment Grant Program totaling $94,599.
The initial grant application was for the department to be able purchase nine portable radios and nine mobile radios to increase the number of emergency service agencies they can communicate with, and to improve communications by reducing the amount of time it takes to communicate with other agencies. It will also improve the clarity and reliability of those communications. The funding obtained will allow the Garnett police to maintain compliance with federal communications regulations and follow guidelines that go into effect January 1st.
