A brief incident yesterday, October 3rd, at Ottawa High School led to a soft lockdown of the school. The Ottawa Police Department received a call yesterday afternoon about student behavior that needed police intervention. In an email sent to parents of students at the school, Ottawa High Principal, Kelly Whitaker says the behavior involved the police, so they conducted a soft lockdown so the situation could be addressed.

A soft lockdown means that classroom doors are locked, but class continues as normal. Students are kept out of the halls until the lockdown is lifted and no one is allowed to enter or leave the building. Students and staff were safe at all times and after the lockdown was lifted, students returned to a normal school day. Whitaker says that if anyone has any questions or concerns to contact her at the school.
