Osawatomie officials will break ground today, October 11th, on a 40 acre solar array that Evergy is building in conjunction with the city, to provide renewable energy to the city for years to come. The ceremony will take place at 5:00 this afternoon at the intersection of Osawatomie road and 335th Street. Not only will the array be able to provide Osawatomie with at least 50% of it’s daily power need at a lower rate, former City Manager, Mike Scanlon says as battery technology evolves, they want to pair the soar array with battery storage, giving local customers a break.

He adds that several European companies have inquired about developing in the area since the array is expandable and could be used to power their plants.
