We are really starting to see a lot more deer on the roads as we get deeper into the fall. I saw four deer just off 17th and Main this morning, and a herd of about 20 yesterday evening by Highland Cemetery.
The closer we get to peak mating times, the more crashes are expected. Kansas Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Manager, Gary Herman says the deer are on the move and drivers need to make sure to use their seat belts:

Last year, Kansas saw a big jump in car-deer accident for the first time in a couple years. Officials attribute that to the pandemic and fewer people being on the road. However, this past year, travel was up and more accidents occurred.
