As growth along the I-35 Corridor continues, so does the need for emergency services, and a much-needed new Wellsville EMS station will be in operation soon. Construction on the facility is ahead of schedule and the new facility, called EMS Station 2, is expected to be complete sometime in December.
Discussion of a new EMS base in Wellsville has been going on for several years. Station 2 was first established in Wellsville in 2008 on a trial basis to evaluate the need for a full-time station. Previously, when calls came in, responders would have to travel from Ottawa, with an average response time of 15 minutes or more. By placing an ambulance in Wellsville, response times decreased to less than five minutes for Wellsville, city proper, and significantly faster for the county in the station’s coverage area.
The area has seen a steady increase in emergency call volume for the past 15 years.
The new station can house two ambulances, has an open room with a kitchen, laundry room and sleep areas. It is attached to the Wellsville Police Department with access to showers and fitness equipment and more.
