A dangerous situation in Garnett Saturday, October 21st. Garnett police were called to the 300 block of North Oak for a domestic fight. Once on scene, after an initial investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest a Garnett man on charges of aggravated domestic battery and intimidation of a witness.

The suspect fled inside a detached garage, armed himself, and barricaded himself in the garage, the suspect was observed as armed and pointing a rifle at law enforcement. Law enforcement made contact with the suspect via telephone and began a negotiation for his surrender. After quite some time, and after the approval of a search warrant, officers made a forced entry into the garage. Once inside, the suspect was neutralized using less lethal ammunition, including impact flash grenades and tear gas.

The suspect was arrested for aggravated domestic battery, intimidation of a witness, felony interference with law enforcement, criminal threat against law enforcement and others and aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer. No injuries were reported during the incident and according to the Garnett Police Department, the case is still under investigation. Formal charges will be sent to the Anderson County Attorney’s Office as soon as the investigation is complete. The suspect’s name was not released, pending the ongoing investigation.
