Last year was a huge upgrade from 2021 as far as candy sales and halloween participation in general. This year we expect it to be full-on normal-sized halloween again. According to the National Retail Federation, halloween candy spending should hit a whopping $3.1 billion this year! That’s a new all time high. Overall halloween spending is predicted to be over $12.2 billion. Up 15% over last year.
But, what type of candy is the most popular? In Kansas, based on purchases from last year, it was m&m’s followed by Reece’s pieces and then Hershey’s mini bars. Nation wide, the most popular halloween candy was Reese’s cups, followed by skittles and m&m’s in third place. Starburst and hot tamales rounded out the top 5. Oh, and by the way, the survey also says that 50% of parents stash some halloween candy to enjoy later in the year. I….would be one of those parents.
