There’s more to the upcoming election than just electing commissioners and school board members. There is a very important question on the ballot that effects several businesses in Franklin County and forced one to leave the county altogether. In 1986 the State of Kansas approved an amendment allowing the sale of liquor by the drink. Eight years later, in 1994, Franklin County citizens approved the amendment locally, with the requirement that establishments must have a least 30% of their gross sales come from food, not alcohol. Owner of Not Lost Brewery, Melany Gentry, says the rule is tough on them:
Now thirty years later, Franklin County voters can choose to remove this 30% requirement for businesses by voting “Yes”. You are voting to remove the food sales requirement for our Franklin County businesses and as a result, giving them a higher chance of success as the continue to serve our community.
