There may have been some confusion when it comes to the contribution the Ottawa City Commission gave to the finishing of Legacy Square. Confusion, not on the commission’s end, but the public’s understanding on what the $475,000 was going toward. The city is not just giving the money to the Ottawa Community Partnership. The money will be used to purchase two properties. The first is the empty lot in the 100 block of South Main that connects Main Street to Legacy Square. The second, purchase of the playground and park to the north west of Legacy Square. Before the vote, Commissioner Clayton poised a question, prefaced by City Attorney Blain Finch and answered by City Manager Brian Silcott:

The issue is still not completely decided. The Memorandum of Understanding would assure the city is purchasing the two properties, regardless of funding for the rest of the project.
