Spring Hill has a new Veterans Memorial. The city’s new Veterans Memorial Plaza was dedicated Saturday at Veteran’s Day celebrations. The memorial features salutes to the different branches of service, different military creeds and a quote from General Douglas Macarthur, from a famous speech given by General Macarthur at the United States Military Academy at West Point on May 12, 1962, upon receiving the Thayer Award. In this speech, he emphasized the importance of the values of duty, honor, and country in the lives of military leaders.
U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids planted a flag featuring the name of her Uncle Evans ‘Little George’, who served in the U.S. Marines. Davids was also one of the guest speakers at the event, as well as U.S. Navy Veteran George Honn of Paola.
