After all the write in votes were counted in the Anderson County Canvass, county clerk Julie Wettstien says that Garnett has a new city commissioner. Write in candidate Nate Wiehl received a whopping 74.58% of the vote with 443 total votes. Mark Powls received only 102 votes and write in Paula Scott got 29. Incumbent Mark Shehan, who after a very controversial term on the commission, dropped out of the race for all intensive purposes a week before the election and endorsed Wiehl for the position. He still received 33 votes in the election. Results after all elections are unofficial. The county canvas makes election results official after counting write in votes and absentee ballots in all elections. Wiehl will take his position on the board at the first meeting in January where he will be sworn at that time.
