Governor Kelly has proclaimed November as Kansas reads to preschoolers month. It’s an annual program that encourages early childhood literacy by engaging young minds in the joy of reading. Each year, the program committee and the state librarian, Ray Walling, select a children’s book to be read and shared with preschoolers across the state. This year, the chosen book is “My Heart Fills with Happiness” by Meredith Grey Smith. The book is available in English and Spanish, making it an inclusive and engaging read for children of diverse backgrounds. The book celebrates the simple joys in life, such as spending time with family, enjoying video games, and delicious chocolate chip cookies.
The Kansas reads to preschoolers program is not limited to libraries; it encourages participation from schools, childcare centers, and families across the state. The program promotes the importance of early literacy and the joy of reading within the community.
