The man who murdered a mother and her two young daughters; kidnapping her 8-year-old son on Halloween night 1984 in Wagstaff, east of Hillsdale in Miami County, has died. David Andrews was serving a 45 year sentence for the murders of Jean Yackle and her children. He died of cancer at the age of 65. Retired Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy Randy Cornelius was the first officer on the scene of the bloody crime. He said his biggest fear was that Andrews would someday be released from prison, saying there is a special place in hell for someone like Andrews. The young boy was found at Andrew’s sister’s house in Port Huron, Michigan and brought back to Miami County in November of 1984 to live with his grandparents. That boy, Brian Massey says Andrew’s death brings much relief to his family, and his family can now erst easy knowing he will not get out of prison to hurt anyone else. He also had empathy for Andrew’s family, saying they were also victims in the ordeal.
