We see more and more Christmas lights popping up around the area as we get closer to the holiday. Evergy is concerned about people being extra cautious when they are putting lights on their houses and trees. This message from the Safety Division of Evergy:
They add that if you need to replace strands of lights this year, consider buying LED lights which are more energy efficient, run cooler and last longer. Also, stay away from power lines and don’t hang lights in trees near power lines. If you are using an extension cord, use only newer lights that have thicker wiring and are required to have safety fuses to prevent the wires from overheating.
