The Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Fentanyl Impact Team announced they have made a major seizure of illegal drugs. Wednesday, November 29th, they say knowledge was obtained about a larger shipment of illicit drugs into Kansas. Then yesterday, November 30th, the KBI, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Drug Enforcement Administration executed a search warrant on two residences in south Wichita and another in northwest Wichita. The results were astounding. Officials seized over 60,000 fentanyl pills, 59 pounds of methamphetamine and over 4 pounds of fentanyl powder. With 2 milligrams of fentanyl considered a lethal amount, the DEA says the amount seized was enough to potentially kill over 900,000 people.

It’s unknown what the powder was going to be mixed with, but it is possible for someone to take a pill without knowing it contains fentanyl. It is also possible to take a pill knowing it contains fentanyl, but with no way of knowing if it contains a lethal dose. Franklin County Sheriff, Jeff Richards:

At this time the suspects have not been arrested. According to the CDC, synthetic opioids like fentanyl, are the primary driver of overdose deaths in the United States. Overdose deaths involving opioids have risen 39% since 2021
