If you were planning on taking the family on the Snowglobe Express train ride out of Baldwin this Christmas season, you are out of luck. Many people who paid for tickets to the train excursion have been told that the event is not happening after all. As a matter of fact, the Snowglobe Express Train no longer exists. Now that the train has gone off their tracks, many people are out hundreds of dollars. Many families who purchased tickets last year, received an email saying the ride was cancelled due to dangerously cold temperatures, but Snowglobe Express told those people the tickets could be used this year instead.
Here’s the problem…the company never owned the railroad. An attorney for Ottawa Northern Railroad says his client actually bought the railroad assets when a prior sale to Snowglobe Express investors fell through. He says Ottawa Northern never received any Snowglobe ticket sales money and had nothing to do with those excursions. The new railroad, which took over in March, actually hauls freight. He says he is empathetic to the people who bought tickets from Snowglobe, but they didn’t actually have the right to sell the tickets. Several people who bought tickets have filed a complaint with the Kansas Attorney Generals office.
