The next big street project in Osawatomie will be the reconstruction of Sixth Street from Lincoln to Kelly Avenues. The Osawatomie City Council has approved Killough Construction to construct the concrete streets at a cost of just over $6 million. The project includes the removal and reconstruction of stormwater systems, curb, gutter, street surface and replacement of a water main, cleaning and improving carrying capacity of a ditch that parallels Sixth Street on the west to the Levee, and reconstruction of an ADA ramp near the Loft on Sixth.

Officials say the project will also include the removal of existing streetlights, replacing them with new decorative poles and lights. The work will begin on the south end of Sixth Street and stretch between Lincoln and Kelly Avenue. The Levee will likely be shut down for one to two months, forcing drivers to find another way in and out of town.
