We’ve all heard the importance of making sure we have working smoke alarms in our homes, but there is another danger lurking that we need to be aware of. Carbon monoxide is a colorless and odorless gas that is created from improper burning of fuel and it can kill you and your family. Ottawa Fire Department Fire Prevention Coordinator, Lieutenant Mike Wilson, says having smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms is crucial:
He adds that if you don’t own your home, talk to your landlord about both the smoke detectors and the carbon monoxide alarms. The fire department is happy to work with that person to get the alarms installed. Four Hundred-twenty people die and more than 100,000 visit the emergency room each year from accidental CO poisoning.
