for Christians, it is the Christmas season. but, December 7th also started the Jewish holiday season known as Hanukkah. it will run through Friday evening. Also, Kwanzaa will begin on the 26th and run through January 1st. Certain traditions apply to all three holiday seasons. one of those traditions is candles. Ottawa Fire Department Fire Prevention Coordinator, Lieutenant Mike Wilson, says we have to be careful with candles:
Placing candles on Christmas trees dates back to the 1600 in Germany and the practice spread to the United States in the 1800’s. Wilson says having candles on a Christmas tree is never a good idea. Use common sense and make sure all candles used for holiday and religious ceremonies are used with caution.
