When Ottawa Fire Chire, Tim Mathias began his career 33 years ago, he had dreams. Being a firefighter was something he had wanted to do since he was a little kid. Along the way, a lot of sacrifice ensued. Time away from family, birthdays, holidays, special events. He says he worked Christmas day the first few years of his career here in Ottawa.

Mathias is retiring. Today, his last official day on the job. He told the Ottawa City Commission he was thankful for his family and those he worked with, and one other:

A reception honoring Chief Mathias’s time with the city of Ottawa will be held this afternoon, December 22nd, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the fire station on second street. Stop by and thank him for his service, and check out all the cool fire trucks.
