The Kansas State Parks System is encouraging people to enjoy New Year’s day with a “First Day Hike” at a Kansas State Park. State Parks Director, Linda Lanterman says the “First Day Hikes” are self-led and self-guided. They also vary in distance and rigor.
Flint Hills Trail State Park is on the list of “First Day Hikes”. The trail is listed as easy in difficulty. Residents are asked to bring a bike for riding down the trail, which continues across Lyon and Osage Counties east to Osawatomie and into Franklin County and Ottawa.
People wanting to go on a “First Day Hike” should bring water, snacks, weather-appropriate clothes, hiking shoes, a hiking stick, binoculars and a camera. People who want to bring a pet on a “First Day Hike” can do so but need to keep them on leashes. “First Day Hike” is part of a national program that’s sponsored by america’s state parks.
