As we ring in the new year, there are plenty of projects coming up for Franklin County. One of the biggest, of course, is the renovation and improvements to Old Highway 50. Another includes new buildings for the Public Works Department. Commissioner Roy Dunn says they also need to be ready to address energy projects:
The moratorium on wind farm projects came after much discussion and public comment against the projects. The question of solar farm projects has already come up. It’ll be a couple of months before the Franklin County Planning Commission considers approving a special use permit for a solar farm about a mile north of Ottawa. Officials are still waiting for more information from the owners. Planning and Zoning Director, Pat Toth, says at first, making electricity would be for local customers.
