Game Wardens in eastern Kansas are searching for a group of poachers who were seen illegally dumping more than 30 duck carcasses – some still intact – near I-35 in Franklin County near Georgia Road between the Williamsburg and Homewood interchanges recently. Some were intact and had not been processed. The witness told game wardens that an early 2000s brown full-size Chevrolet pickup – possibly a Z-71 model – with an extended cab, had been parked along the road. A rounded metal carrier was attached to the rear bumper. Several white males in their mid-20s wearing camouflage, with longer hair, like a mullet, were seen getting out of the truck and leaving the ducks in the ditch. The subjects were seen leaving the area in the pickup and traveling south over the I-35 overpass.
At the time of the incident, game wardens said duck hunting season was open and each hunter in this area is allowed a bag limit of 6 ducks. Anyone with information about the incident should report it to Franklin County Game Warden Ryan Twellmann at 785-221-2694.
