As the arctic air descends upon us this weekend, it’s time to start thinking about summer! That’s what the Paola City Council is doing. At a recent meeting they decided it will no longer be required that Family and Group passes for the pool require an adult that is at least 18 years old. They lowered the age to 13 years old. The pool allows children 8 and older to access the pool without an adult.
The paola family pool currently is under renovation. In September 2023, council members accepted a bid from Royal Construction, to renovate the pool for about $2 million. Improvements will include a new slide, as well as spray features in the zero-depth entry area. There also will be a new retaining wall, as well as a substantial renovation to the bathhouse area. Most of the repairs and enhancements will be funded by the city’s half-cent sales tax that voters renewed in 2019. City officials previously have said the plan is for all of the work to be completed before the start of the 2024 pool season.
