A fire in an attached garage caused extensive damage to a Miami County home west of Louisburg Thursday, February 1st. The call came in just before 9:00 Thursday night at 13645 W. 287th Street. Louisburg fire arrived a few minutes later. Firefighters initiated an attack on the garage, and crews also made entry into the house to cut the fire off. Firefighters located three dogs inside the house and removed them. One dog received cpr and oxygen from EMS crews and was revived. The other two dogs were fine.

Miami County Emergency Management Coordinator, Mark Whelan says the fire made its way into the attic, causing extensive damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Louisburg Fire Department and Kansas State Fire Marshal Office, but Whalan says nothing is suspicious, the American Red Cross was contacted to offer aid to the residents. Whelan says the preliminary damage estimate is between $400,000 and $500,000.
