Have you noticed a new water tower in the skyline southeast of Ottawa? Tuesday marked a significant milestone as a massive crane lifted new pieces of the tower into place. The City of Ottawa says the new tower will ensure a reliable water supply for the community. Utilities Director Dan Riney says once complete, it will replace two other iconic towers in town:
The new tank will hold 500,000 gallons of water. The old tanks on 15th Street and Dundee Street are 400,000 gallons each and were built nearly 70 years ago, in 1954. The project is expected to be completed sometime in July of this year.
