The shooting at the Kansas City Chief’s Rally last week, touched home for several Miami County residents. As one of the gunmen fled the scene, being chased by a police officer, he ran directly into 42-year-old Bo Bohlander, of Paola, who slowed him down enough for others to tackle him. In the widely circulated video, you may have seen the gun fall to the ground, a woman moving it away, toward a wall. Forty one-year-old Steve Orr, of Osawatomie secured the weapon by standing on it, telling officers they had the shooter and his gun.
An Osawatomie teen, 13-year-old Gabriella Darger, was injured by a ricochet bullet and has burn marks on her leg. Her mother, Bridget Barton, had a bullet slug in her coleman bag. She delivered it to the Kansas City Police the next day. She says they witnessed the woman who died and one of her children getting shot. They fell right next to her daughter, blood staining the teens shoes. Barton’s husband Jason, gave CPR to the first man that was shot before others arrived to provide care. She called it a traumatizing event that will effect them for quite a while. Her message….hug the ones you love because the world is cruel, and you never know what it’s going to deal to you.
