Last week, the tragic shooting at the Chiefs Super Bowl Rally sent shock waves throughout many communities and left many people in in anguish, disgust and angry that it happened. However, the number of police officers and emergency medical squads that were on duty that day probably saved many more lives. One of those emergency medical services teams was from Anderson County. Three members of the Anderson County EMS team, Troy Armstrong, Sherry Schmitz and Suzi Sykes were at the Chiefs Super Bowl Parade and Rally and provided mutual aid to the Kansas City Fire Department. They were within 30 yards of the initial shots fired near Union Station and without hesitation, were among the first at the scene, rushing in to help with the wounded and provide care.
Actions such as this and countless other first responders and health care workers across the region as they didn’t flinch, they stepped in and worked tirelessly to save lives. A big thank you to Troy, Sherry and Suzi who stepped up, putting their own lives on the line to serve others.
