The Ottawa Municipal Airport played host to 40 members of Group 1 of the Kansas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. The purpose of the event was the bi-annual group training, designed to qualify members for various search and rescue tasks. Training includes drone usage, urban direction finder usage for searches, first aid & CPR training for ground team qualification.

As a Total Force Partner and Auxiliary of the U. S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol is there to search for and find the lost, provide comfort in times of disaster and work to keep the homeland safe. Its more than 64,000 members selflessly devote their time, energy, and expertise toward the well-being of their communities while also promoting aviation and related fields through aerospace and STEM education and helping shape future leaders through the Civil Air Patrol Cadet program.

The Civil Air Patrol was formed in December of 1941 as a way to protect the nation’s shorelines and shipping from German U-Boats, CAP has evolved into a premier public service organization that still carries out emergency service missions when needed — in the air and on the ground.
