The USDA released its annual Chicken and Egg Report last week. So, what’s in store for egg prices in 2024? The USDA December chicken inventory is up one percent from a year ago and egg production down slightly. American Farm Bureau Economist, Baird Nelson, says the report comes as nearly all protein sectors including beef, pork and lamb are forecast for smaller inventories for this year and beyond
Nelson says the report forecast increased production in 2024, up to 96 billion eggs, that’s up 1.3% over last year. Prices expected to average about a $1.83 a dozen, down 10 cents from a year ago.
