Civic-minded citizens in our area have a unique opportunity to make a difference in the community by applying to become a member of the taxpayer advocacy panel, known as TAP. As a member you have an opportunity to protect taxpayer rights and improve IRS service, policies, products, and procedures – no tax experience needed! TAP members serve as a conduit for bringing grassroots concerns to the attention of the IRS, and work on a variety of issues to improve IRS services and taxpayer satisfaction.
TAP members must be U. S. citizens who are current with their federal tax obligations and able to commit 200 to 300 volunteer hours during the year. Tap members must also pass a federal bureau of investigation criminal background check and cannot be federally registered lobbyists or current employees of the Department of the Treasury or the IRS, Former treasury or IRS employees. To fill out an application, go to usajobs.gov, and search volunteer taxpayer advocacy panel. The deadline is March 15th.
