The issue of solar farms springing up in Franklin County is getting a lot of attention. The Franklin County Commission has heard from two groups on the issue. One of those has temporarily dropped their request. One group against solar projects in the county, known as Franklin County People Against Wind and Solar, is holding a meeting Thursday night, March 7, to discuss the negative affects wind energy and solar energy would have on the county as a whole. The meeting will be held at the Union Chapel Church on Nebraska road at 6:30 Thursday evening. They will discuss the real cost of green energy, solar fire safety requirements, and many other topics related to the industry.
One company that has expressed a desire to build a huge solar array southeast of Ottawa is Orion. They are proposing what they call the Prairie Sunlight Project. They will have an all day open house Thursday, March 14th at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium to address issues such as fire safety and EMS response, solar specifications, environmental concerns and layout design. It will be held from 9:00 in the morning until 7:30 the evening of March 14th.
