The Paola City Commission will meet tonight, March 12th, and discuss a variety of items. One item on the agenda is a proposal from “My Father’s House” to build a tiny home cluster development at 1004 North Pearl Street. The Commission will possibly take action on a motion to adopt an ordinance that would allow the tiny home development.
In December last year, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, in partnership with member financial institute, First Option Bank, awarded My Father’s House Community Services an affordable housing program grant of one million dollars to launch the tiny homes project. The projects has a goal to provide construction of 14 tiny homes, including needed infrastructure. The tiny homes will house community members recovering from homelessness and/or addiction or living with mental or physical disabilities who are unable to afford rent.
A tiny home is classified as a structure on a permanent foundation that meets all municipal zoning codes that fall under 500 square feet in size.
