Ottawa Recreation Commission Executive Director Levi Meyer has submitted his resignation. In a letter yesterday, March 14th, Meyer says after spending time in prayer and talking with his family, he has decided to take an opportunity to be a parks and recreation director in another community. He says he has been blessed to lead a great organization and is thankful for the support of the community.

Meyer was hired as director in October of 2020 after serving as Recreation Services Operations Coordinator at the University of Kansas. Since taking over, the ORC has seen a 130% increase in program participation, an 89% increase in scholarship participation for low income families and a 73% increase in program offerings and diversity. Meyer says he and his wife will continue to live in Ottawa and be actively involved, allowing his wife to continue to teach and coach here. Over the coming weeks, the ORC will begin a transition period as the board searches for a new director. Meyer says he has offered his support during this time to ensure the new director gets started on the right foot. His final full day on the job is March 25th.
