Kansas Representative Pat Proctor and the Kansas Veterans’ Caucus gathered yesterday at the Statehouse to rally support for House Bill 20-36 which originally offered property tax relief to disabled veterans. Proctor says disabled veterans are not staying in Kansas because other states are providing them with better options. The group said Senator Caryn Tyson is standing in their way. Tyson chairs the Senate Tax Commission which, last week, amended the bill to instead provide a sales tax refund. Tyson said the state already has programs to reduce income and property tax for veterans, and they are doing what they can to help:

But, veterans say more needs to be done and want to see House Bill 20-36 passed as written. A veterans organization day will be held on March 28th at the capitol to continue making their case. The Senate passed the bill, but it still needs House approval
