Kansas Senator Caryn Tyson updated constituents on a tax bill in the Kansas Legislation. Tyson says the bill would eliminate state income tax on social security. Provide property tax relief to homeowners by increasing the K-12 mill exemption to $100,000. It would also eliminate the state sales tax on groceries July 1st, instead of January of 2025. It would increase personal exemptions for single and married filers, create a child tax credit program based on household income and a few other items. The biggest of those, it would create a single tax bracket of 5.7% that would decrease over 5 years. The bill passed the senate and was sent to the house.

In other property tax bills, Senate Bill 484 would eliminate personal property taxes on off road vehicles including all-terrain vehicle – atvs), watercraft, golf carts, motorized bicycles, snowmobiles, and trailers with a gross weight of 15,000 lbs. or less.

Another would freeze property tax for seniors and disabled veterans and still another would give a sales tax exemption for disabled veterans . Expect more debate in both houses this week on all these items
